KITENGELA GLASS

Nairobi está repleto de tiendas de esta fábrica, se dedica a hacer todo tipo de cosas con vidrio: jarrones, vasos, lámparas, mesas, sillas, vitrales, joyería y todo lo que puedas imaginar con tu mente; pero resulta que la fábrica está en las afueras de la ciudad.

Por el camino nos perdimos, pero fueron más las veces que pensábamos estar perdidas! El lugar está en de una zona muy árida, con carreteras de tierra y rocas, sin nada por el camino... Después de seguir los roca-carteles, llegamos a este lugar tan pintoresco! cada elemento es una obra de arte, hecha de latas, botellas, redes metálicas, coches, papel maché, hormigón, trozos de otras cosas, en fin, reciclaje e imaginación al 100%!!

La fábrica es un conjunto de construcciones: un taller al aire libre, varias tiendas, las casas de los empleados y el horno, elemento central, muy parecido a la cúpula de la catedral de Florencia de Brunelleschi, junto a unos despachos de estilo Gaudí.

Me sentí, como me suele suceder muy a menudo aquí en Kenia, en otro lugar! Me recordó a mis amigos artesanos y artistas en Barquisimeto, me recordó que la creatividad no tiene límites, me recordó que ser original va muy ligado con ser uno mismo.

Nairobi is full of shops from this factory, is mainly dedicated to making all sorts of things with glass: vases, glasses, lamps, tables, chairs, stained glass, jewelry and everything you can imagine, but it turns out that the factory is outside Nairobi. 

 

Along the way we got lost, but most common were the times that we thought we were lost! The place is in a very arid area, with sand and rock roads, with nothing on the way ... After following the rock-signs, we arrived at this place so picturesque! Each element is a work of art, made from cans, bottles, metal nets, cars, paper mache, concrete, pieces of other things, in short, recycling and imagination 100%! 

 

The factory is a collection of buildings: an open-air workshop, shops, houses of employees and the main oven as central element, much like the dome of Florence Cathedral by Brunelleschi, with offices on it Gaudi style. 

 

As usual, I felt like somewhere else, not Kenya! It reminded me of my friends artisans and artists in Barquisimeto, reminded me that creativity has no limits, reminded me that being original is closely linked with being yourself.
