primer día FIRST DAY

En realidad, no es mi primer día en Kenia, llevo ya mes y medio! Y como de costumbre el tiempo pasa volando... Me gustaría ponerlos al día, así que tengo mucho trabajo por hacer!

Hoy vamos a empezar con la gente. Hay más de tres millones de habitantes en Nairobi y la mayoría vive en casas, lo que hace que sea una ciudad bastante extensa. Cada keniata pertenece a una tribu diferente, desde Kikuyu, Luo, Luhyia, Kalenjin, Kisii, Kamba hasta los conocidos Masai; ¿cómo distirguirlos? Estoy en ello, no es tan fácil a simple vista. Esto implica que cada uno tiene su propio lenguaje, pero todos se entienden usando suajili (kiswahili) aunque el idioma oficial del país es el inglés.

Lo mejor de la gente es su simpatía, donde quiera que vayas o donde sea que preguntes, te atienden con una sonrisa y mucha educación! También les gusta enseñarte cosas sobre su cultura: el pasado jueves en un restaurante japonés la chica que nos atendía, Josephine, nos preguntó si habíamos terminado y nos dijo que aquí cuando se dejaba comida en los platos se decía que era para alimentar a los antepasados. Y en la oficina cada día aprendo una forma de saludar diferente en suajili, todo el mundo quiere integrarte!!

Hablemos de religión, tranquilos, aqui no convencemos a nadie! Nunca había visto tanta variedad de iglesias ni de religiones en mi vida! Ortodoxos, budistas, baptistas, bahai, musulmanes... Tres cuartos de la población son católicos, el cuarto restante podría decirse "otros". Todo el mundo respeta la religión de los demás y es un tema que no se discute, raras veces te preguntan por tu religion, y si lo hacen, es por curiosidad. Se me olvidaba, la curiosidad, condición importantísima en todo keniata que se precie: de dónde eres, qué haces aquí, cuánto tiempo te vas a quedar, cómo es tu país...

La foto de abajo, lo que más he disfrutado haciendo! Casas, coches, árboles, hojas, flores y corazones en las manos de unos niños que no se podían creer que es posible dibujar todo lo que ellos quisieran.

The best of people is their sympathy, wherever you go or whatever you ask, they give your their best smile and they are also so polite! They even like to teach you things about their culture: the last Thursday in a Japanese restaurant the waitress, Josephine, asked us if we were done and said that here when you leave food on the plates is to feed the ancestors. And in the office every day I learn a different way of greeting in Swahili, everyone wants you to integrate! 

Let's talk about religion, don't worry, we don't want to convince anyone here! I had never seen such a variety of churches and religions in my life! Orthodox, Buddhist, Baptist, Baha'i, Muslim... Three quarters of the population are Catholic, the remaining quarter are "others". Everyone respects the religion of others and is a topic not discussed, rarely ask about your religion, and if they do, is because of curiousity. I forgot, curiosity, major condition for a Kenyan: where are you from, what are you doing here, how long you're staying, what's your country like...
